Michael King ('91) has been with Delta Airline since 2001 and is currently a First Officer, flying internationally on the 767 out of JFK. John ('91) and Tracy (Skinner, '91) Whitaker lost their son, Mitch, in September 2007, to acute lymphatic leukemia. In spite of her grief, Tracy and a friend ran a marathon in June 2008, in San Diego to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. After that race, she was inspired to continue; she wanted to recruit 40 friends to run a marathon on 2009 to help raise money and awareness for leukemia and in honor of her 40th birthday. When Tracy challenged her friends to run the marathon and to raise $140,000 for the cause, they accepted and Mitch's Angels was born. The group, now numbering 50, has exceeded their goal raising over $176,000. They are running the P.F. Chang's Rock 'N' Roll Marathon, held January 18 in Phoenix, Arizona. (1/09) |
