Admission to Graduate Studies
An applicant seeking admission to the Graduate Programs in Counseling must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Have completed the necessary prerequisite hours designated by the Graduate Programs in Counseling. Applicants must have 18 hours of psychology related coursework, including a class in Statistics and one in General Psychology;
- Submit completed application for admission and non-refundable application fee of .00. These should be sent to the Graduate Programs in Counseling office 60 days prior to enrollment;
- Submit a recent photo with your application materials;
- Have one (1) official transcript of ALL post-secondary work sent to the Graduate Programs in Counseling Office;
- Demonstrate English proficiency by a score of 19 or better on the ACT, a B or better in English I or II, completion of the MHR, OL, or FSG major, or satisfactory completion of the Graduate Programs in Counseling Goals Essay and Journal Article review;
- Submit the journal article review;
- Have submitted three completed letters of recommendation to the Graduate Programs in Counseling Office;
- Have satisfactorily completed the APA Proficiency Exam. The APA exam will only be required of those applicants accepted into the program. The APA exam must be passed with an 80% proficiency to begin the program;
- Have satisfactorily completed the Graduate Programs in Counseling Admissions Goals Essay;
- Have earned a 2.70 cumulative G.P.A. and a 3.00 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work (based on a 4.00 scale);
- Have a satisfactory score on the TOEFL (international students only);
- Have preadmission interview;
- Submit completed Financial Aid application and materials.
