Reserve Officers' Training CORPS

Southern Nazarene University provides students interested in pursuing careers as commissioned officers in the U.S. Army opportunities to cross-enroll in the University of Central Oklahoma's Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program.

Qualified students attend classes on the campus of UCO, a large state university located in Edmond, Oklahoma, about 20 miles from SNU. The program consists of a Basic Course and Advanced Course.

ROTC: The Basics
You can study to become a Second Lieutenant at SNU/UCO ROTC. Whether you take the four-year program or just a few classes, ROTC is an elective you can take in conjunction with almost any major.

Unless you are receiving an Army ROTC scholarship, you can try the program for up to two years with no obligation while you work toward your college degree. During that time, you'll learn the principles of leadership, management and problem solving; skills that will help you as an Army Officer or down the road in the corporate jungle.

You'll Be in Good Company
When you enroll in Army ROTC, you'll meet other top students. Many were presidents of their student governments, varsity captains and members of honor rolls. These are people who are up for a challenge and want to succeed, both in college and later in life. ROTC graduates include some of America's most respected leaders in fields ranging from business to entertainment, sports to government.

Classrooms Without Walls
Unlike most elective courses, the Army ROTC curriculum includes spending time outside the classroom...way outside. You may be leading your classmates on a tactical mission or taking part in an outdoor adventure. You'll get hands-on experience in decision making, team building, and organizing complex tasks, all while you're earning college credit.

The Army ROTC Scholarship Program
Every year, ROTC awards scholarships to hundreds of students, regardless of their families' financial status. Based solely on merit, these scholarships pay up to $20,000 a year for tuition and fees. Each scholarship also includes an annual book allowance and a stipend of up to $4,000 a year.

Your Supplies are on the Army
Most Army ROTC textbooks, uniforms and essential materials will be furnished at no cost. And if you're accepted into the Advanced Course, you'll receive a tax-free stipend of up to $4,000 even if you are not receiving an Army ROTC scholarship.

Build a First Class Resume
To a future employer, ROTC on your resume says you've been trained by the U.S. Army to be able to handle real-life situations, and to assume leadership and management rules. You'll be prepared to think on your feet, embrace responsibility and take on a leadership role in any field you choose.
