Interdisciplinary Majors
If you want a more flexible program than English provides, an English advisor can help you customize your degree according to your own needs and interests. Areas of study that readily combine with English for a solid interdisciplinary degree include speech, drama, journalism, mass communication, psychology, history, business, fine arts, creative writing, foreign language, religion and pre-law. In fact, English is one of the best majors for students planning to attend law school.

Faculty
Courses in literature, writing, literary criticism and language are taught by well-qualified and highly motivated professors. Class size is small enough to allow students the opportunity to work closely with professors in a positive learning environment.

Dr. Peggy Poteet, Professor of English, Chair, Division of Communication Arts and Department of English
Dr. Gwen Hackler, Professor of English; Director of General Education
Dr. Pam Bracken, Assistant Professor of English
Jim Wilcox, Associate Professor of English and Journalism
Part-time Faculty - Michelle Bowie, Stephoni Case and Chris Querry

Student Opportunities
The English Department offers literary field studies on a regular basis. For example, a trip to England is offered every two to three years in the spring or summer. This trip is planned and hosted by knowledgeable professors who have previously visited Great Britain. The itinerary focuses on sites of major historic or literary importance, but also includes ample free time. Students may enroll for credit in English and a variety of other disciplines. Other upcoming trips include field studies throughout the South, Boston and the Northeast. A residential summer program is also offered through the CCCU Oxford Studies program.

Scholarships
Six scholarships are available to English majors of all classifications, including the Daniel K. Gresham scholarship.
