OSU Research Symposium 2009
A few of our fellow students traveled out to OSU where they presented their research this last February. Both, Erin Fitzgerald and Johnnie West, received great commendations in regards to their presentations and research.
National Undergraduate Literature Conference
Megan Cole attended Weber State University in Utah to present her paper titled "More than Illiterate: Functions of the Medieval Image".
SNU Research Symposium 2009
We would like to congratulate the winners of the 3rd annual Undergraduate
Research Symposium and all of its participants as they embody SNU's
aspirations for student academic success. This year, there was a record
number of participants. Presentation winners were awarded in four
categories - Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities, and
Theology. A separate award was given for best poster presentation in
the Sciences area. The winners in each category were as follows.
Social Sciences

We
also want to thank the student assistants, the faculty who volunteered
their time as panel judges, the SNU IT department, and the School of
Business office staff for their help in making this annual event a
success. Please help us celebrate the accomplishments of our student

Guest Speakers
Dennis Lamoureux
Dennis Lamoureux, from the University of Alberta, was on campus April 20 and 21. He made appearances in a few Biology courses and also hosted multiple lectures reconciling faith with evolution. His book, I Love Jesus and I Accept Evolution, is a terrific book
on the journey of understanding scientific knowledge in light of belief
in God and sincere desire to understand scripture fully.
Charles Kimball
Dr. Charles Kimball is an ordained minister within the Baptist church. He received a MDiv from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate from Harvard University in comparative religion with a focus on Islam. Having visited on numerous occasions and even lived in the Middle East, he has formed political networks and influences both there and here in the United States. As a well published author, he has received many accolades for his writings, most notably When Religion Becomes Evil.
Ben Carson, Sr.
Ben Carson, Sr., M.D. spoke during a special chapel on April 9. He has an extraordinary life story to share. Growing up in a single parent home with dire poverty, poor grades, a horrible temper, and low self-esteem Dr. Carson’s dream appeared out of reach until his mother, with only a third-grade education, challenged her sons to strive for excellence. Today, Dr. Carson is a full professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and he has directed pediatric neurosurgery at The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for nearly a quarter of a century. Among his accomplishments, Dr. Carson is most widely known for the first separation of craniopagus (Siamese) twins joined at the back of the head in 1987.
