What is Youth in Mission?

"Youth in Mission" is a short-term missions ministry of Nazarene Youth International. For over 30 years Youth In Missions (which was originally called "Student Mission Corps") has been placing teams of college young people in ministry sites around the world for eight weeks each summer.  The program's official website is:  www.youthinmission.org

Former Youth in Mission director Bo Cassell said, "Our goal is to make Global Christians. The best way to do this is by sending Christians around the globe in ministry."

Participants in this volunteer, short-term mission experience must raise funds to pay all their expenses (including ministry funds). Youth in Mission is a "10% Approved Special" program for the Church of the Nazarene.

Southern Nazarene University participates actively in Youth in Mission by inviting an NYI team to campus in September or October for two to three days of recruitment via chapel presentations and interviews.

In 2004 we had nearly forty students in places like Saipan, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., South Africa, Australia, Madagascar and Croatia. Our goal for the near future is to have at least 50 SNU'ers accepted each summer for Youth in Mission service. Will you join us in praying that the doors will open for this to happen?

Students apply online in the fall with selections to teams being announced by the early part of the spring semester. Training begins immediately with a weekly meeting the rest of the semester. An 8-day training camp in early June, held the last few years in Pasadena (CA), catapults the students into their ministry assignments.
