[Bethany, Okla.] — Southern Nazarene University (SNU) welcomes Dr. Shelley Groves as its new Vice President of Academic Affairs. An SNU alum with a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, Groves brings more than 20 years of service in higher education.
She says, “I am delighted to be at a university that is truly Christian in both name and practice. I knew from first-hand experience that SNU was a place that cared not only about my academic pursuits, but also about my walk with the Lord. Being part of a community that desires to fulfill God's call to work heartily for the Lord in whatever I do is a precious privilege.”
Groves credits the academic culture at SNU for her excitement about her new role, saying, “SNU is an excellent example of how Christian higher education should function. I am most excited about working with a team of faculty who understand and embrace that high calling as we serve students in the classroom and in God's kingdom. The growing academic programs and opportunities being offered to students is challenging but filled with amazing opportunities as we prepare students for work in the marketplace in business, medical fields, education, and more.”
As Groves looks to the future and SNU’s place in Christian higher education, she sees a lot of opportunity, stating, “SNU is blessed with an outstanding faculty who are experts in their fields as well as devoted followers of Christ. Having a team of people like that who are committed to excellence and striving to stretch and develop innovative ways to prepare students with new
offerings in academics is key to moving forward. In our ever-changing culture, the ability to be open to change and new opportunities is vital. SNU encourages continual growth and development, and that mindset is exciting. It creates a culture that values learning for its leaders as well as its students. That environment is a place where great things can happen.”
