Catalysts

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

undefined-2The Catalysts were formed in 1977 in an attempt by SNU science alumni to provide major financial assistance to the Division of STEM. Catalysts is an auxiliary of the SNU alumni association. Contributions (including corporation-matching) are donations to Southern Nazarene University.

The Catalysts Executive Board consists of Catalysts members who reside close enough to SNU to meet periodically. A member of the Board (presently Dr. Tamara Berg) serves as its Executive Director. An SNU faculty member (currently Dr. Nicholas Zoller, Chair of the Department of Computing, Mathematics, and Physics) serves as Catalysts coordinator at the university.

Catalysts' funds are expended only upon recommendations of the Executive Board. Faculty members of the Division of STEM submit proposals to the Executive Board. The Faculty Coordinator serves as a liaison and assists in the preparation of the yearly budget proposal.

GOALS

There are few universities that provide exceptional scientific opportunities in an environment that fosters deep Christian commitment. Catalysts seek to promote this unique combination at SNU through Financial Support of:
  • Faculty-student research projects, which enhance the level of scientific instruction and contribute to new knowledge.
  • The purchase of scientific instruments and instructional equipment, especially where purchases can be matched from other funds.
  • Activities that promote the development of faculty excellence, such as research at universities and sabbatical programs.
  • Catalysts also support the SNU Quetzel Education Research Center (QERC) in Costa Rica.  For more information on QERC, visit our website at QERC
Catalysts also seek to contribute to SNU by serving as lecturers, consultants, student recruiters, and contributors of equipment and books. Catalysts hope to promote fellowship between its members and an increased awareness of the accomplishments of SNU alumni.
