Called to Care: Ally Meek’s Journey Through SNU’s PTA Program

A Passion for Helping Others

Allyson Meek, known to friends as Ally, is a recent graduate of Southern Nazarene University (SNU)’s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. Originally from Enid, Oklahoma, Ally graduated from Chisholm High School in 2022 with a passion for helping others and a clear sense of purpose that would guide her educational journey.

Preparing for the PTA Program

After high school, Ally attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU) in Alva, where she completed the prerequisites for admission to SNU’s PTA program. During her time at NWOSU, she stayed actively involved in Christian campus organizations, worked part-time as a teller at BancCentral, and gained valuable clinical exposure as a PT Tech at Therapy Innovations in Enid. She was also honored as the NWOSU Homecoming Queen in 2023, reflecting both her leadership and the strong relationships she built within her campus community.

Ally’s decision to pursue physical therapy as a vocation was shaped by personal experience and family influence. “I always wanted to be like my mom when I was young. She is an Occupational Therapist. I knew I wanted to help people,” she shared. “While in high school, I had three shoulder surgeries, which ended my dream of playing college softball. It was during countless hours of therapy that I realized my purpose was to help others through rehab. This is how my Physical Therapy Assistant dream was born.”

Finding the Right Fit at SNU

When it came time to begin her professional training, the time of SNU’s PTA program stood out. “Since the SNU PTA program started in January, it was the perfect timing for me to start my journey. I had my prerequisites completed, and I didn’t want to waste a semester doing nothing or paying for other classes.”

Support, Growth, and Leadership

Throughout the program, Ally found strong support from both faculty and classmates. “I really value how the SNU PTA program has amazing staff who not only want to help you on your school journey but also on your spiritual journey as well,” she said. “They have helped me in so many ways that I would not be able to express in words. I have accomplished so many challenges and things I felt like I could never do with the confidence and help from them and my peers.”

Her positive experience began even before the first day of class. “When I was applying to the SNU PTA program, everyone I spoke to was amazing, so helpful, and very kind. I definitely think this speaks volumes about this school as a whole.”

In addition to her academic work, Ally served as one of two cohort leaders, helping represent her classmates and contribute to a strong, supportive learning environment.

Looking Ahead to a Career in Physical Therapy

Looking ahead, Ally is excited for her career in physical therapy and continuing to make a difference in the lives of others. Her journey reflects resilience, purpose, and a heart for service that began long before she stepped into the classroom. From overcoming personal challenges to stepping into a leadership role within her cohort, she has made a meaningful impact on those around her while preparing for a career centered on helping people regain strength and confidence.

The SNU community celebrates Ally’s accomplishments and the dedication she has shown throughout her academic experience. Congratulations, Ally! We are proud of all you have achieved, and look forward to seeing the difference you will make in your career as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
