Prof. Rob Gering

Biography

Prof. Gering began teaching at SNU in 2020 as an instructor for the Cybersecurity PGS program, and in 2023 he joined the full-time faculty as Assistant Professor of Computer Science. At SNU, Prof. Gering directs the traditional undergraduate Computer Science and Software Development degree programs. He also serves as a faculty mentor to McNair Scholars interested in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Information Systems research, and he teaches the Sustainability and Computing course at the Quetzal Education Research Center (QERC) in Costa Rica.

Before SNU, Prof. Gering led the development of a mobile application platform for a leading provider of church websites. He believes in the transformative power of technology to share the Gospel. Prof. Gering has also consulted on software development matters for numerous startups and Fortune 500 companies, and he has many stories to share of things gone right (and wrong). His professional interests include the craft and practice of software development, cybersecurity, and applied artificial intelligence systems. He lives in Oklahoma City with his wife, Rachel, and their four children.

Fun Facts:
I met my wife in a backpacking class at SNU! I like all things outdoors, like golf, disc golf, and hiking, and I'm a dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
