SNU to Host Organ Concert Honoring Eleanor Whitsett on October 24th
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bethany, OK – The Southern Nazarene University (SNU) School of Music is pleased to announce an Organ Concert in Honor of Eleanor Whitsett. The concert will take place on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 7:00 pm at Cantrell Music Hall, located at 4013 N College Avenue on SNU’s campus. Admission for this event is free.
The concert honoring former SNU Organist and Adjunct Professor of Organ, Eleanor Whitsett, will feature Glenda Robinson and Tim Marek, both former students of Mrs. Whitsett. Ms. Robinson is Organist of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Marek is Assistant Organist at All Souls’ Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City and Adjunct Instructor of Piano and Organ and Staff Accompanist at SNU.
The program will include hymn arrangements by Whitsett and a few of her colleagues, Ovid Young, Zsolt Gárdonyi, and Fred Bock. Traditional organ repertoire by J.S. Bach, Louis Vierne, and William Mathias will also be performed. The program will be played on the 45-rank mechanical action organ, built by the Schlicker Organ Company in 1979.
An accomplished organist, Mrs. Whitsett served SNU for over 27 years, as well as a number of congregations throughout the Oklahoma City area. She is a member of the American Guild of Organists and was a past dean of the Oklahoma City chapter. She has also had keyboard and choral works published, and is a member of the Hymn Society of America and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
