Small Seeds, Lasting Impact

Featuring John Whitsett ’80

John Whitsett-1-1-1

John invests in the future of SNU through small, faithful steps that grow into lasting impact.

John graduated from BNC/SNU in 1980 and now serves as Alumni Board President and as a member of the Board of Trustees. His connection to the university runs deep and reflects a long Whitsett family legacy. His mother, Dr. Eleanor Whitsett, taught organ in the SNU School of Music for more than 27 years, and his father, Dr. Don Whitsett, graduated from Bethany-Peniel College in 1954.

Throughout his ministry, John has served congregations across the country as a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene, leading churches in Texas, California, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.

Here’s how John describes why he’s chosen to give to SNU:

“I believe one of the great, and frequently overlooked, principles of life is that small, consistent investments over time result in an impact far beyond what we'd think. It applies to our personal growth … to building great relationships … to developing a new skill or competency … to virtually every pursuit in life.

“As it relates to SNU, I believe giving a small monthly gift allows me to have an impact far beyond what I'd otherwise have and bless this place that contributed so wonderfully to my life. I’m not wealthy to where I have the means to write a check with a lot of zeroes in it. But giving back in this way helps me do more than I’d otherwise be able to do. And over the long haul, I believe it will make a great difference.”

As we begin this Spring Planting series, we are grateful for alumni like John Whitsett, whose story reminds us that what is planted faithfully today can grow into something lasting tomorrow.
