Honoring our Veterans Together
Join Southern Nazarene University as we gather to honor the courage, service, and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans. Our annual Veterans Day Observance and Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at the SNU Soldiers Monument, “Tears from a Grateful Heart,” located on the Bud Robinson Mall.
This meaningful event will include remarks from university and community leaders, as well as a special tribute to those who have served in defense of freedom.
Guest Speaker: Major Andy Peck (United States Air Force)
Major Andy Peck serves as Wing Chaplain for the 72d Air Base Wing at Tinker Air Force Base, supporting more than 92,000 military members, civilians, retirees, and family members. An Air Force chaplain since 2009, he comes from a family with generations of military service and a longstanding connection to SNU. His cousin Prebble Peck Beaver gifted the family home to the university, where it now serves as SNU’s VETS Center. Major Peck will deliver remarks at the Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony.
Continue the day’s observance with an evening of history, fellowship, and reflection at SNU’s Veterans Day Military History Presentation & Reception, held in the Heritage Conference Room.
Guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Greg Kent, United States Air Force, Retired, will present “The Real American Hero — Joshua L. Chamberlain and the Battle of Gettysburg.” This presentation will explore the decisions and actions of Colonel Chamberlain and the 20th Maine Infantry Regiment during the defense of Little Round Top. The evening will include social receptions and an opportunity for questions and discussion.
Guest Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel Greg Kent (UnitedStates Air Force, Retired)
Lieutenant Colonel Greg Kent served more than 20 years on active duty in the United States Air Force, with a career spanning aviation, leadership, and safety management. A former Executive Director of the Oklahoma Safety Council, he currently serves as Senior Project Manager for Agile Space Industries, building the Space Test Center in Tulsa. His evening presentation, “The Real American Hero — Joshua L. Chamberlain and the Battle of Gettysburg,” will explore lessons from Colonel Chamberlain and the 20th Maine Infantry Regiment’s defense of Little Round Top.
