Five Ways to Prepare for College

The transition from High School to College can be a big jump. Take the time to develop habits now that will benefit you over the next four years. Here are five ways to prepare for College:

  • Finish strong – We know it’s hard to stay connected for those final days of High School, but those days still matter! Be sure to stay engaged, do your homework, be prepared for tests, and finish well.
  • Make lasting memories with your loved ones – Before you head to college, use these last months, weeks or days to be intentional about the time you spend with those you love. You won’t regret the quality time.
  • Create small disciplines that will benefit your well-being – Start now to be intentional about things like good rest, exercise regularly, eating healthy, time management, and quiet time. Small changes now will positively prepare you for the next step.
  • Get a job – Consider pursuing something in your chosen field of academic interest. It’s never too early to gain experience in the field you hope to pursue. Make some money while also learning more about careers in your field.
  • Take some time to rest – There will be many things happening in college and you’ll want to be connected. Take the time now to relax, read a book, or go for a walk. You’ll want to be ready, mentally and physically, for the semester ahead.

We are excited to have you on campus as a student. Your first stop is New Student Institute!
