More Opportunities. More Growth. More Possibilities: Mya Uribe Portillo
Always chasing opportunities, Mya Uribe Portillo developed her drive and resilience by watching the women in her family growing up. “Seeing their resilience really inspires me because if they can do it, then why can’t I do hard things with the circumstances that I have been blessed with?”
And now, she is making the most of every opportunity she has at Southern Nazarene University - thanks in part to the generosity of donors like you.
“I’m so grateful that there are people who want to see me grow and see me pursue something that is different than what my circumstances have told me that I am.”
Mya has been involved all across campus, from serving in student leadership and in a chapel band, to doing research in the McNair Scholars Program and traveling to SNU’s QERC campus in Costa Rica.
Off campus, she is an artist with the Sunny Dayz Mural Festival and Calle Dos Cinco for gallery exhibits. She also puts her artistic skills to use as a student worker for the SNU Creative office.
Mya loves to give back to her community and wants to take that even further in the future as an entrepreneur.
“As someone who tends to do a lot of different things...I want to take advantage of all those opportunities and equip myself with as many skills for whatever God has for me in the future, because I know doors will open up.”
Stories like Mya’s are possible because of the generosity of alumni and friends like you, who believe in the mission of making Christ-like disciples through higher education.
