SNU Hosting K-9 Veterans Day Celebration at Scissortail Park March 28

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[Bethany, OK] - Southern Nazarene University (SNU) will host its annual National K-9 Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Scissortail Park, Robinson Lawn (801 S Robinson Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73109). This event is free and open to the public.

Members of the Oklahoma City community and the surrounding areas are invited to bring their dogs, kids, families, and friends to enjoy a meaningful day of recognition, connection, and celebration. The event will feature Veteran resources, support, and career services, along with family-friendly activities throughout the day.

A dog demonstration will take place at 11:00 a.m., followed by the official K-9 Veterans Day Ceremony at 12:00 p.m., honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s military working dogs, law-enforcement working dogs, and service dogs.

National K-9 Veterans Day is observed each March to recognize the establishment of the United States K-9 Corps in March of 1942 during World War II. The day honors the loyalty, courage, and sacrifice of military working dogs who have served alongside U.S. Armed Forces members during times of war and peace.

”K9 Veterans Day provides us an opportunity to love on our military working dogs, past and present. This day is set aside for us to recognize their dedication and sacrifice to our country,” explained Mark Nadig, Director of SNU’s VETS Center. “Military working dogs have played a huge role in supporting our Soldiers and Marines in past wars and today’s deployments by helping us identify threats that can often be hard to spot with the human eye. These dogs helped save lives then, and they help save lives today. We want these dogs to be recognized and thanked. Many military working dogs then go on to help veterans as service support dogs once they are retired from military service. They have always been a trusted battle buddy for us.”

The event is sponsored in part by the SNU Veteran Educational Transition Success (VETS) Center. SNU’s VETS Center is committed to supporting veterans and honoring all who have served, including military working dogs and service/therapy dogs who continue to play a vital role in the lives of veterans. Through events like the K-9 Veterans Day Celebration, SNU seeks to bring the community together in thanks and recognition.

Vendors interested in participating in this event are warmly encouraged to do so, though they are responsible for providing their own equipment, including tables, chairs, and tents.
