SNU to Recognize Buddy at K-9 Veterans Day Celebration on March 28th

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[Oklahoma City, OK] - Southern Nazarene University (SNU) will be recognizing Veteran service dog, Buddy, at its annual K-9 Veterans Day Celebration at Scissortail Park’s Robinson Lawn from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

National K-9 Veterans Day, held every March 13th, is a day to honor and reflect on the service of American military dogs. This date commemorates the day in 1942 when the US Army first began training dogs for military use through a program called the K-9 Corps. SNU and the SNU VETS Center work with local agencies and vendors to honor this day with a community celebration each March.

The event, which is family and dog-friendly, free, and open to the public, will feature Veteran resources, family-friendly fun, vendors, the OKC Police Department’s K-9 Detachment Team, and an official K-9 Veterans Day Ceremony at 12:00 p.m., during which Buddy will be honored.

Buddy, a black poodle, serves as a service dog and companion to United States military Veteran Ruth (pictured together above). Buddy and Ruth completed service dog training at VERSA K-9 for Vets of NE Oklahoma, an organization that assists disabled veterans and emergency personnel with service dogs and service dog training. Buddy and Ruth graduated from the program in the winter of 2024.

We are excited to honor Buddy during our K-9 Veterans Day Celebration and extend our thanks to Ruth for allowing Buddy to be part of this special day.
